How to Create a Shutdown/Logoff/Restart Windows 8 Button

For Windows 7 users, they only need to click on the start menu and click shutdown to turn off their PC and it is pretty easy to do so. However, if you are a Windows 8 user, it requires several complicated steps for you to turn off your PC, which makes you very fretted sometimes, especially when you are in a hurry. Usually, the shutdown item of windows 8 is very hidden. To get that item, you have to open the Charms bar>go to Settings>click on Power button>choose the shutdown/logoff/restart. Fortunately, you can create a shutdown/logoff/restart button on your start screen to make the complicated steps become easy. Now, read the following tutorial to get these three items step by step.

 

Step 1: go to Desktop

 

Step 2: right-click the blank place, and go to New, and then select Shortcut

 

Step 3: you will get another pop-up window

  1. If you want to create Shutdown button, type “shutdown /s /t 0” and press Enter
  2. If you want to create Restart button, type “shutdown /r /t 0” and click Next
  3. If you want to create Logoff button, type “shutdown /l” and click Next

 

Step 4: type shutdown/restart/logoff to name the shortcut and press Enter

 

 

Step 5: right-click on the new shortcut and choose Properties

 

 

Step 6: When you get the “Shutdown Properties” window, click on Shortcut tab and click “Change Icon

 

 

Step 7: click OK when a window pops up

 

 

Step 8: choose a corresponded icon to what you are creating now and hit OK.

 

 

Step 9: click on Apply and OK to save the changes

 

 

Step 10: now you can put the new icon on the place wherever you like.

If you want to put it in Taskbar, right-click the icon and select “Pin to Taskbar

 

If you want to put it in Start menu, please choose “Pin to Start

 

 

 

Conclusion
