Adobe Acrobat applications are generally used to read PDF files. Therefore, we can create a protected PDF file with the help of Adobe software.

Step one- Open a PDF document

Step two- Select Advanced > Security > Encrypt with Password

Step three- Click Yes to continue

Step four- Select the Compatibility (Encryption Level)

Acrobat 9.0 and later versions encrypt the document using the AES encryption algorithm with a 256-bit key size. But you are not able to open such higher compatibility setting document with an earlier version of Acrobat.

Step five- Tick “Require a password to open the document” and enter the password, then click OK

Step six- Enter the password again to confirm the Document Open Password

Step seven- Click OK

Step eight- Save the PDF document to apply the security settings


Note: When you want to decrypt the PDF document, you should enter password to open the file. Then you go to Advanced > Security > Remove Security, and click OK and Save it.
