How to start Windows in Safe Mode

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows to start your computer in a limited state. In Windows safe mode, only specific programs and files needed to run the Operating System are loaded and you can run administrative and diagnostic tasks, such as removing viruses, changing bad drivers and other tasks.

Windows XP

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Keep tapping F8 key before Windows loads.
3. Move your arrow key to select the option for Safe Mode.

4. Then press Enter key on your keyboard to boot in safe mode.

Windows Vista

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Keep hitting F8 key before Windows loads.
3. Move your arrow key to select the option for Safe Mode.

4. Then press Enter key on your keyboard to boot in safe mode.

Windows 7

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Keep hitting F8 key before Windows loads.
3. Move your arrow key to select the option for Safe Mode.

4. Then press Enter key on your keyboard to boot in safe mode.

Windows 8

1. On the start screen, please hold Ctrl + Alt+ Del.
2. Hold shift key, click power button and select Restart.

3. Click Troubleshoot when the following screen appears

4. On Troubleshoot screen, plz click Advanced options

5. On Advanced options screen, plz click Startup Settings

6. On Startup Settings screen, plz click Restart

7. Then you can see many startup options, you can press F4, F5, or F6 to boot in the wanted safe mode.
