How to Stop Google Chrome from Automatic Update

Generally, every couple of weeks, Google Chrome will update automatically to the latest version to make sure that the web browser is stable and secure. But most of users are not willing to get the browser updated because they think that the risk of the latest version is unknown and it may have compatibility issue to their system. For this reason, they may prefer to keep the original version. But, are there any solutions for those users to disable their Chrome automatic update? Fortunately, the answer is yes. The following tutorial will show you in detail.


How to Disable Google Chrome Automatic Update

Solution 1

Step 1: Run your Chrome and input “about: plugins” in the Address bar and hit “Enter” key.

Step 2: Then, search for “Google Update” in the pop-up list and disable it.

Step3: Save the changes and reboot the Chrome

Solution 2

Step 1: Go the Registry Editor.

a. If you are Windows 7 users, press Windows+R at the same time to get the Run box and type “regedit” in the box and hit Enter.
b. If you are Windows 8 users, move your cursor to the right corner of the top screen to get the Charms bar. Then click on Apps and type “run” in the search box press Enter and type “regedit” in the pop-up box and press “Enter

Step 2: When you come to the Registry Editor successfully, navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update

Step 3: Look for “UpdateDefault” on the right side of the Registry Editor and double click on it.

Notice: if you cannot find “UpdateDefault”, you can create one by yourself. Steps: right click on a blank place in the right side>click New>String Value>name it as UpdateDefault.

Step 4: Change the value data to 0

Step 5: click OK to save the changes
